French ceramist and President of the Chamber of Ceramists and Art Workshops of France, as well as organizer of the Salon des Ateliers d’Art, which today are known as the Fondation des Ateliers d’Art de France and the Salon Maison&Objet.
A student at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, Marcel Guillot worked in various workshops around the Paris area, including the Sèvres manufactory. He decided to become independent and opened his own studio in Paris with a gas kiln while collaborating with porcelain maker Jacques Lobjoy.
He then moved to La Varenne-Saint-Hilaire, working with electric kilns, and finally settled in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. His workshop of 30 people produced pieces that were sold through the salon and in major department stores.
Marcel Guillot created both functional ceramics and a stoneware bestiary. The decoration was either painted or carved on stoneware or porcelain forms with often matte glazes.
Before 1939, he participated in all the Parisian Salons. In 1958, he was awarded the Gold Medal at the Brussels International Exhibition.
