Exceptional French Art Deco floor lamp by Degue, Compiegne. Wrought iron and double-blown marmoréen glass shade. High-end French production associated with major Art Deco interior programs, including the SS Normandie ocean liner.
This exceptional French Art Deco floor lamp signed Degue (Compiegne) reflects the peak of French decorative arts in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It embodies the refined balance between craftsmanship, innovation, and modern elegance that defined the Art Deco movement.
The double-layer hand-blown marmoréen glass shade, enriched with suspended oxides in blue, rose, green, and white, creates a soft, atmospheric diffusion of light. This distinctive Degue technique produces subtle internal depth and luminous variations, highly sought after in luxury interiors of the period.
Founded by David Guéron, Degue was one of the leading French glass manufacturers of the Art Deco era. The firm specialized in high-quality molded and blown glass lighting, combining geometric clarity with rich decorative effects. Its work played an important role in shaping the visual language of modern interiors between the two world wars.
Degue is also historically associated with major French decorative programs of the period, including participation in the interior lighting and glasswork for the ocean liner SS Normandie. This legendary vessel, one of the most luxurious ever built, represented the pinnacle of French Art Deco design. Its interiors were conceived as a total work of art, where architecture, lighting, furniture, and decorative objects were unified into a coherent expression of modern luxury and national craftsmanship.
