Elegant French Art Deco table lamp produced in the 1920s by the Croismare glassworks of DAUM in the Lorraine region of France -Ref 01716
It features a mold-blown double-layer glass shade incorporating yellow and red enamel inclusions within the glass
This technique creates a richly nuanced and luminous surface, characteristic of the decorative experimentation developed in the Lorraine glassmaking workshops during the early 20th century
The shade is signed “Lorrain” (see photo). This signature was used for production from the Croismare factory, as pieces made at this facility were not signed “Daum” but “Lorrain,” referencing the historic Lorraine region

The renowned French glassmaker Daum was founded in 1878 in Nancy, in the Lorraine region of eastern France. Under the leadership of the Daum family, the firm quickly became one of the leading names in French artistic glass
By the late 19th century, the company gained international recognition through its innovative creations associated with the movement of Art Nouveau. The workshops developed refined techniques including acid-etching, enamel decoration, layered glass, and complex surface effects
In the early 20th century, the firm successfully adapted to the evolving decorative language of Art Deco, producing decorative objects and lighting characterized by cleaner forms and the use of molded and textured glass
During the 1920s, Daum established an additional manufacturing site in Croismare, near Nancy. This facility was conceived as complementary to the historic Nancy factory, allowing the company to expand production, particularly for lighting components and certain molded glass pieces
Objects produced at the Croismare manufacture were typically signed “Lorrain.” This mark identified the Croismare production while also referencing the Lorraine region, the historic birthplace of the Daum enterprise. Today, works from both the Nancy and Croismare workshops form an important chapter in the history of early 20th-century French artistic glass
