A new impulse for the Biennale des Antiquaires





Voted at the extraordinary general meeting, on June 29th, the annualization of the Biennale des Antiquaires embodies the renewal of the event created in 1962 by the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA).

The upcoming edition of the Biennial will be held in September 2016 and the annualization will be effective in 2017, leading to profound changes in its management and organization.

The annualization of the Biennale: a key step in its development.
The ambition of the Board of Directors, chaired by Dominique Chevalier, is to consolidate and amplify the unique and essential role played by the Biennial in the calendar of major international events, while meeting the dynamics and evolution of the current market. Each year, under the iconic roof of the Grand Palais, the event will open the Parisian cultural, press and industry events calendar.


New challenges, new goals, new organization.
To support this new challenge, the SNA Board of Directors decided to rely on the expertise of Reed Expositions France, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, the world's leading events organiser with more 500 events in 43 countries. Now in charge of the organization of the Biennal, Reed Expositions will bring the strength of its experience, the know-how and the expertise of its teams, which are familiar with major art events (Fiac, Paris Photo, Salon du livre de Paris) and cultural issues, to design, plan the event and enhance its exposure in France and abroad.
Remaining the exclusive owner of the Biennial, the SNA, with a majority in the steering committee, will continue to define the strategy and take an active part in the operational decisions.



Taking advantage of the exceptional cultural density of Paris, the SNA and Reed Expositions France will therefore collaborate in a dynamic partnership to allow the Biennial to reaffirm its position as a major event bringing together each year at the Grand Palais the greatest French and international merchants and jewellers as well as the rarest works, attracting the most discerning collectors and major institutions from around the world.
Also in this logic of development and transparency, an enlarged committee to outside personalities will now assume the selection of exhibitors, previously carried out by a commission of SNA executive.
This "Biennial Committee", chaired by Henri Loyrette, will consist of fifteen members including five SNA’s members and ten qualified persons (collectors, art historians, curators, etc.) appointed by the SNA’s Board of Directors.


In addition to the selection process - with a target of 100 to 120 antique dealers and art galleries not to mention the greatest jewellers in the world - and while taking an active part in discussions held around the event's scenography - the "Biennial Committee "will also be an active relay for the main actors of the art world: cultural institutions, collectors, etc.
